The Salvation Army is in Need of Donations for Annual Thanksgiving Meal

November 22, 2013 CONRIC PR

Every year, The Salvation Army of Lee, Hendry, and Glades Counties offers a traditional Thanksgiving meal to anyone in need. This Thanksgiving, The Salvation Army plans to serve meals to over 500 people in the community. This holiday meal is not possible without the help of the Southwest Florida community. The Salvation Army is currently accepting food donations at The Salvation Army Red Shield Lodge at 2400 Edison Avenue in Fort Myers from 7 a.m. – 8 p.m., 7 days a week.

In 2012, 675 people came to eat a Thanksgiving meal at The Salvation Army of Lee County.  The organization expects even greater numbers to come to its Edison Avenue campus for help this year. The Salvation Army is counting on support from the community to help meet this need. This year’s Thanksgiving meal will also include a special performance by volunteer Doug Cameron, a renowned violinist who will delight diners with beautiful music during the meal. Though The Salvation Army is very appreciative of their volunteers, no further volunteers are needed at this time to serve the meal.

Members of the community who would still like to help are encouraged to bring food donations to The Salvation Army Red Shield Lodge. Food items that are needed include: turkeys, onions, celery, instant mashed potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce, fresh fruit, pre-baked pies, cookies, and canned drinks.

All food donations can be brought to The Salvation Army Red Shield Lodge at 2400 Edison Ave. This location will be accepting donations 7 days a week from 7 a.m. – 8 p.m. For more information, contact The Salvation Army’s offices at (239) 278-1551
