August 18, 2022 CONRIC PR

11:30 am - 1:15 pm

The pandemic caused a major disruption in America’s labor force—something many have referred to as The Great Resignation. In 2021, more than 47 million workers quit their jobs, many of whom were in search of an improved work-life balance and flexibility, increased compensation, and a strong company culture. The shortage of workers is also in part due to so many baby boomers retiring, and not having enough younger workers to replace them.
When it comes to worker shortages, the service industry in Southwest Florida, in particular, is feeling the pinch. The labor crunch is especially evident in health care — and in retail and restaurants, with so many “Now Hiring” signs hanging inside and outside of chain and independent stores across Southwest Florida.
One in four Americans live with a disability that impacts life activities, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and of that population, just 18% are employed, compared to 62% of individuals without a disability, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics data.
