Tangible personal property tax discounts end soon for Lee businesses, landlords

February 12, 2018 CONRIC PR

Time is running out for Lee County business and rental property owners to take advantage of a discounted tax bill. Feb. 28 is the last day to receive a 1 percent discount on 2017 tangible property taxes.

Businesses are assessed taxes each year on the furniture, fixtures, signs, supplies, tools and equipment they use, regardless of whether they own, lease or rent the property, under Florida state law. Landlords are assessed on the furnishings and appliances they provide in a rental unit. A tangible personal property tax return (DR-405) must be filed no later than April 1 every year. The form can be found online at leepa.org.

Business owners and landlords can pay at leetc.com by following these steps:

· Click “Renew or Pay Online.”

· Select “Tangible Property Tax.”

· Enter the account number or use the “Search By” menu to find the account by name, address or personal ID number.

· Add the item to the cart and proceed to checkout.

· Choose a method of payment.

No fees are charged for those paying by Echeck, which simply requires entering bank account information. The website also provides a business owner’s guide to tangible taxes and further explanation of the tax bill.

“Our goal is to make the process as easy as possible,” Hart said. “Business owners in Lee County can relax. We’ve got your back.”

Discounts are offered each year on tangible property taxes, peaking at 4 percent during November and declining 1 percent each month through February. Visit leetc.com for more information.
