Salvation Army Christmas Distribution Center Opens Saturday

December 12, 2013 CONRIC PR

With less than five days left before The Salvation Army of Lee, Hendry and Glades Counties will begin distributing toys and food to families in need, the agency is making a plea for toy donations.  While The Salvation Army does receive thousands of gifts through a partnership with Toys for Tots, thousands more are needed to help families looking for holiday help this year. The Salvation Army is estimating it may need 7,000 additional toys to provide children with gifts to open Christmas morning.

People who want to help can drop off a new, unwrapped toy at any Salvation Army location or at the following Lee County Toys for Tots collection sites:  Bealls/Bealls Outlet stores, Chick-fil-A restaurants, and Walgreens pharmacies.

A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held Saturday at 8:45 am at The Salvation Army’s Christmas Cheer warehouse located at 3048 Metro Parkway. Distribution to families in need begins Saturday December 14th and continues December 16, 17, 19 and 20 from 9 am to 3 pm daily.  Families served during distribution are part of The Army’s Christmas Cheer program and only those families that have previously registered receive items.

The ceremony will begin promptly at 8:45 am, will last about 15 minutes and will include appearances by our following special guests, Toys for Tots representatives in Marine dress blue uniforms and Allen Park Elementary School, who raised $1,204.69 in their red kettle drive.  The first 1,204 toys distributed on Saturday will be given in honor of the students at Allen Park.
