Organization recognized for hard work and dedication to public relations profession

The Florida Public Relations Association (FPRA) honored the FPRA Southwest Florida Chapter with several awards at the 77th Annual FPRA State Conference in Orlando, Fla. Members from 15 chapters across the state and public relations professionals from around the nation and abroad, were on hand for four days of professional development, networking and recognition of their peers.

FPRA State President Rachel Smith, APR, CPRC, presented the FPRA Southwest Florida Chapter with two awards – one in Accreditation and Certification and the other in Student Development. The FPRA Southwest Florida Chapter was the only chapter in the state to be honored with two awards. FPRA recognizes local chapter excellence through its annual President’s Awards in 10 categories: Accreditation and Certification, Communications, Community Service, Financial Management, Image Awards, Leadership Development, Membership Development, Professional Development, Special Event Planning and Student Development, based on accomplishments throughout the year.

An individual award was given to chapter member Kara Winton, APR, CPRC. She received the Doris Fleischman Award, which honors the contributions an individual member of FPRA has made to the public relations profession and/or to FPRA. This statewide “unsung hero” award recognizes an individual who consistently provides support and assistance to the association.

“We have a dynamic team of public relations professionals leading our local industries,” said Heidi Taulman, APR, FPRA Southwest Florida Chapter president. “These awards demonstrate our commitment to excellence in public relations and to professional development. I am so honored to work with them.”

The chapter was also the winner of the 2015 Chapter Challenge, which is given to the chapter that did the most to promote the annual conference, participated in Local and Golden Image Awards and participated in the new membership renewal social media campaign.

The local FPRA student chapter at Florida Gulf Coast University also took home several awards for its efforts in public relations. It received a Golden Image Award for its FGCU FPRA Internship Fair 2014. This was the only student entry in the state to receive a Golden Image Award.

In addition, FGCU chapter President Molly Nurczyk was awarded the Bob Davis Florida Public Relations Education Foundation Scholarship, which recognizes her efforts to support the professional development of students studying to enter the public relations profession. Nurczyk was the only student in the state to receive the scholarship.
