Byron Donalds, a conservative Republican and political grassroots leader who is running for the District 19 seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, scored two more straw poll victories. Donalds won straw polls conducted by the Lee County Republican Executive Committee and the Lehigh Gazette.
Donalds won the Republican Executive Committee poll with 30 percent of the vote against five other Republican candidates. The results will be shared by the committee with registered Republican voters in Lee County. Donalds won the Lehigh Gazette poll with 52 percent, also against five opponents. “I am humbled and encouraged by the strong support of citizens throughout the district, from Marco Island to Lehigh to Cape Coral,” said Donalds.
These new polls bring Donalds’ straw poll victories to five. He has won all the straw polls conducted at forums where the candidates were given time to speak. Donalds previously won the straw poll at a Cape Coral forum against all eight of his opponents in the highly contested race, with 28 percent of the vote; a Leap to Liberty candidates forum straw poll in Naples against seven of his opponents, with 61% of the vote; and a straw poll in Marco Island against four opponents, where he earned 60% of the votes.
“These forums are an important part of the election process,” Donalds continued. “They promote necessary competition and the opportunity for the voters to compare the candidates. Every day, more voters are hearing my clear solutions for the critical issues facing our country through our grassroots efforts. I will continue to seek opportunities to share my vision for individual liberty and limited constitutional government with the citizens of Southwest Florida and the nation.”
