IMAG History & Science Center is celebrating its facility’s 22nd birthday on Saturday, August 12 from11 a.m.-2 p.m. within its regularly scheduled operating hours. Festivities include food trucks, interactive STEM and history stations, buy-one-get-one admissions, a gift for the first 250 children, a preview of a one-of-a-kind virtual reality (VR) exhibit, and special giveaways.

Since the merger of the Imaginarium Science Center and the Southwest Florida Museum of History that created IMAG earlier this year, the center has designed an exciting blend of exhibits and hands-on activities that combine history focused on Southwest Florida with science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). IMAG is open Tues-Sat, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sun, 12 p.m.-5 p.m.

Executive Director Matt Johnson said, “This is a perfect opportunity to celebrate our longevity in the community, while we introduce our new focus – a dynamic mix of STEM and history.” Johnson shared that the history component is focused on telling the story of Southwest Florida’s rich past. “This community and region has a great deal to be proud of and we are sharing that with visitors,” said Johnson.

Guests will have the opportunity to preview a new, highly immersive VR experience – Virtual Fort Myers: The Past Meets the Present. Scheduled to fully open on August 19, this experience is the ultimate STEM and history combination and is indicative of the innovative approach IMAG is taking to implement its new mission.

IMAG History & Science Center is a family-friendly destination offering fun interactive exhibits, an aquarium, history displays and a 3D theatre. The mission is to engage guests in the exploration of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), and more recently the history of Southwest Florida. This is achieved through hands-on experiences and educational programs that further the understanding of the natural and human-made world, and foster an appreciation for Southwest Florida’s unique environment, natural waterways, and rich history. A visit to IMAG nurtures intellectual curiosity, discovery, and innovation. For more information, visit theIMAG.org or visit in person – 2000 Cranford Avenue | Fort Myers, Fla. 33916
