North and South Lee County seniors to face off in 26th All-Star Classic

November 20, 2014 CONRIC PR

At 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 10, high school seniors from points north and south in Lee County will hit the gridiron for the final time in their high school careers. As the much-anticipated finale in the Rotary Club of Fort Myers South 26th Annual All-Star Classic, the game at Fort Myers High School’s Sam Sirianni Field pits north against south, and finds former rivals working together to advance the ball down the field. For this momentous occasion, The Voice’s top-20 contestant Ricky Manning will bring the Edison Stadium crowd to its feet for an unforgettable rendition of The National Anthem.

Head coaches from across the county have nominated their best players to compete in this exciting game, which also features the county’s best cheerleaders, as nominated by their cheer coaches. This game has served as a first major resume highlight for some illustrious alumni, dozens of whom have gone on to play in the NFL. Each of the football players and cheerleaders will be presented with a customized commemorative ring or charm, in addition to memories to last a lifetime. Game tickets are $5. The game wraps up the approximately 60 players’ high school careers, and also three days of activities and celebration in this 26th annual All-Star Classic. An awards and recognition banquet kicks off the grand event 6 p.m. on Monday Dec. 8 at Harborside Event Center. Then on Tuesday, December 9, Fort Myers High School hosts a free Miami Dolphins Youth Football Clinic, which is open to area youth, ages six to 14.

Ricky ManningAlong with the All-Star football players, 19-year-old Cape Coral native Ricky Manning is chasing a dream of his own. Manning put college on hold to perform in subway stations in New York City in hopes of making it in the music industry. His emotion-filled performances on popular talent show The Voice gave him access to a vast, appreciative audience and catapulted him into this season’s Top 20.

Sanibel resident and football enthusiast John Carrigan founded the Rotary South All-Star Classic in 1989. This event was the first countywide organized football game in the state of Florida. Carrigan’s vision of football paired with fundraising has continued since then under the continued leadership of Rotary South. Proceeds from the event are used to support college scholarships, as well as grants for local community organizations. Rotary Fort Myers South is grateful for the support of Bell Tower Shops, which has signed on as Title Sponsor of this year’s All-Star Classic.

The Rotary Club of Fort Myers South is currently seeking donations and sponsors to help cover the cost of this annual event. Area businesses or individuals can sponsor the event, a team, player or cheerleader. There are also opportunities to advertise in the event program featuring the student athletes that are being honored. For more information on sponsorship or ticket sales, please contact John Doramus at globalpriorityone@yahoo.com or (239) 634-8286.
