FORT MYERS, Fla. (Nov. 23, 2021) — Our Mother’s Home (OMH) will continue its mission to empower young mothers in the foster care and human trafficking systems to break the generational cycle for themselves and their children thanks to the Colonial Charitable Foundation’s generous support with a recent $40,000 donation. This donation comes at a pivotal time for the agency, as it prepares to announce the plans for a new facility with transitional living space.

The Colonial Charitable Foundation selected OMH as its charity of choice during its gala on November 8, 2021. The Colonial Charitable Foundation is dedicated to supporting local charities, programs and individuals in Lee County, and it is funded through the generous support of the Colonial Country Club community and other local residents and businesses.

“On behalf of the Our Mother’s Home executive board and staff, I cannot express my gratitude enough to the Colonial Charitable Foundation for this generous donation,” said Executive Director, Alicia Miller. “Every dollar donated to our organization is put directly towards providing our young women and their babies with a stable, safe and supportive environment that will set them up for a successful future. Thank you to the Colonial Charitable Foundation for selecting us to be the recipient of this donation. We look forward to continuing our partnership for years to come.”

Since OMH was dedicated in May of 2000, more than 400 teen mothers and children have benefitted from the organization and its mission. The dedicated staff, generosity of donors and support of the Southwest Florida community has allowed the residents and their babies to stay together and learn valuable life skills that they need to obtain independence and a happy, healthy and successful future.

Our Mother’s Home

Our Mother’s Home (OMH) was founded in 2000 by Helen Coppage, a foster parent who saw the need for a dedicated residential program to allow teenage mothers and their babies to remain together as mother and child. The organization provides a safe environment and transition for teen mothers (ages 11-21) and their children from foster care and human trafficking to stable, happy, and productive lives by providing a nurturing home, education, parenting support, along with physical, mental and spiritual care. Since its launch, more than 400 mothers and children have benefited from Our Mother’s Home Mentored Living Program, successfully preserving families, transitioning young mothers to self-sufficiency, and saving the lives of children by avoiding their re-entry into foster care. This unique home is the only one of its kind in Southwest Florida. For more information, call 239-267-4663 or visit ourmothershome.org.
