CAPE CORAL, Fla. (Sept. 7, 2022) – Known as “the education agency,” State Farm agents Dawn and Mike Sullivan recently went above and beyond to provide school supplies and books for one of Florida’s newest teachers. The Sullivan State Farm Agencies in Cape Coral have long supported local educators and recognize the importance of providing the tools and resources needed to support effective learning.
Elise Whittle was dual enrolled at Fort Myers High School and Florida SouthWestern State College (FSW) in order to graduate with both her diploma and Associate degree. She is now teaching at 21 years old.
“We have known Ms. Whittle for years and have watched her successfully earn her teaching position,” Dawn Sullivan said. “She will be an exceptional teacher and we are honored to assist her with her classroom supplies as she enters this important role.”
The Sullivans provided several library books as well classroom supplies for the third graders Ms. Whittle began teaching in August at Midtown Academy in St. Petersburg. The agents have been sponsoring local teachers since opening their offices in 2007.
“We have always had an appreciation for the work teachers perform and most have to use their own funds to buy supplies,” Mike Sullivan explained. “We like to relieve that burden. Education is a primary focus of the Sullivan Agencies. It’s the key to success and every child deserves the opportunity to achieve their greatest potential.”
Supporting education is a high priority for the Sullivans. Mike is a former high school and college math teacher, and still holds a passion for helping students excel. The pair founded Sully’s House, a foundation that provides scholarships to deserving high school graduates across Southwest Florida. Sully’s House has granted local students with scholarships to college, summer art programs and more.
This year, the Sullivans also supported Pelican Elementary School by helping to produce their brand new, custom-designed homework and communications folders for a full year. Students and families use these folders to transfer needed paperwork between school and home and to communicate with teachers and other administration officials.
The couple also sponsors local Pop Warner football, youth baseball and the Cape Junior Cudas swim team. They partner with Cape Christian for Cape Leads, a program that brings current and future leaders together for learning and collaboration, and they also back the Southwest Florida Wine and Food Fest, which benefits Southwest Florida Children’s Charities, the Lee County PACE Center for Girls, and Valerie’s House.
