A series of laboratory tests has revealed that Energy Harness Corporation’s Active Airflow UV-C technology can effectively kill 99.998% of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, in just one second of exposure. The laboratory testing was conducted by KR Biotech, a university affiliated research center focused on the development of preventive vaccines and treatments for infectious diseases.
The KR Biotech tests involved exposing SARS-CoV-2 to the UV-C LED modules contained in the Active Airflow Fixture for one, three, and six-second intervals. In each case, the researchers found that 99.998% of the virus nuclei had been inactivated. A virus reduction rate of 99.998% is the maximum sensitivity that the testing mechanism can measure.
“To know that our technology maxxed out the testing equipment, that’s a pretty exciting moment. It says that we’ve got the ultimate COVID killer on our hands”, said Peter Lehrer, senior VP for project development at Energy Harness. “It’s also significant because, unlike vaccines, it makes no difference if the virus morphs or adapts. This technology damages the organism at a molecular level, making it equally as effective regardless of the variant.”
Energy Harness’ Active Airflow UV-C Fixture works by circulating indoor air and applying a large dose of high-energy UV-C light as the air passes through the device. The UV-C light sanitizes contaminated air, then releases cleaned air back into the room. With experts predicting a potential fourth wave of COVID-19 and dangerous variants continuing to spread worldwide, the Active Airflow UVC-C Fixture provides one of the most effective defenses against the spread of the novel coronavirus.
The KR Biotech results are particularly significant because most disinfectant products are not tested on actual SARS-CoV-2. Because of the inherent danger of the pathogen, laboratories in the United States typically evaluate products using surrogate pathogens that can be tested in Biosafety Level 2 laboratories. Because KR Biotech is a Korean-based laboratory, it was able to test the Active Airflow UV-C Fixture against live SARS-CoV-2.
“Most of the third-party test results we’ve seen for other products on the market show efficacy between 90% and 99% and a rare few have been closer to 99.5%. And almost every one of those were only tested against virus surrogates,” explained Michael Fischer, president of Energy Harness Corporation. “With 99.998% effectiveness against SARS-CoV-2, our Active Airflow UV-C technology definitely outshines the competition. With a virus as nefarious as the novel coronavirus, that half a percent difference could be life-altering.”
In addition to its efficacy against SARS-CoV-2, Energy Harness’ Active Airflow UV-C technology is proven to be more than 99.9% effective in eliminating other deadly pathogens such as tuberculosis, Legionnaires disease, and influenza. With epidemiologists predicting an increase in worldwide viral outbreaks, the Active Airflow UV-C Fixture will be essential in confronting future pandemics.
In the six months since the product’s national launch, Energy Harness has deployed Active Airflow units in schools, hospitals, outpatient centers, libraries, and offices across the nation. The fixture is safe, quiet, and is easily placed in a drop ceiling or wall-mounted, making it convenient to install in public spaces of any size or type. The fixture is available for distribution across North America.
