FORT MYERS, Fla. (June 6, 2023) – The Tommy Bohanon Foundation’s 7th annual Youth Football Camp returns to Southwest Florida on June 24, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tommy and Katie Bohanon, founders of the nonprofit, are alumni of North Fort Myers High School, where they expect to host around 250 young athletes from grades one through eight, who will attend the free clinic hosted by Tommy, a former NFL player.
At the camp, these student-athletes do a lot more than perform NFL-style drills. “Our annual football camp gives these kids the confidence they need, guiding them on the path to success in our community,” said Tommy Bohanon. “Young athletes are at the center of our non-profit and getting to spend the entire day forming relationships with these students is just as exciting for the mentors as it is for the kids. We love being able to teach the value of hard work and life lessons in a fun collaborative sports environment.”
It is expected that local volunteers will participate in this year’s football camp and contribute to its success. Coaches and former D1 athletes are taking roles in the program to mentor the student-athletes. In preparation, high school student junior coaches are being mentored by professional coaches on the responsibilities of being a coach, gaining new football skills, and learning important life lessons geared toward their future success.
Additional volunteers include teachers and members of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, EMTs, and North Fort Myers Fire Department who will be providing support throughout the day. Tropical Smoothie Cafe of SWFL will also generously be catering a healthy lunch. LCSO’s “What’s the Scoop” ice cream truck will also be providing a treat to cool down with after camp.
