How your brand can show support for Pride

More than just a rainbow logo: How your brand can show support for Pride

June is Pride Month, celebrating the LGBTQ+ community and paying tribute to the 1969 Stonewall riots. You may have already noticed your favorite brands taking a stand to support the LGBTQ+ community. Why is supporting pride and creating an inclusive marketing strategy important for your brand and how can you do it without appearing performative?

You don’t have to be LGTBQ+ to support Pride

You don’t have to identify as LGTBQ+ to take a stand to support inclusivity. After all, equality is a human rights issue that affects us all. The best way to show your support of the LGBTQ+ community is to ask and listen to your LGBTQ+ customers or employees and lift those voices up. If your brand has been ignoring their voices, it may be time to create a space within your brand strategy to be inclusive for all.

Go beyond the rainbow logo

Anyone can create a rainbow logo for their company during Pride Month. Consider taking the time to carefully craft a message to your LGBTQ+ customers, clients, and employees that shows your brand is there for them. Be proud and show your company’s support of Pride. The key is to make your allyship authentic. So before you simply change your logo to a rainbow, consider what else you may do to show support. Perhaps sponsor a local pride event in your community like  Pride SWFL or PRIDE Cape Coral. You can also donate to a national organization like GLAAD, The Trevor Project, or the Human Rights Campaign

Go the distance

Pride Month might end June 30, but your company’s support can continue year-round. Sit down with your team and make a long-term and authentic commitment to support the LGBTQ+ community and share this with your customers throughout the year.

Create an inclusive marketing strategy

You can support Pride by using inclusive marketing strategies throughout the year. Feature a  same-sex couple on your Valentine’s Day marketing or include a photo of a same-sex couple and their children for Thanksgiving. By including people from different backgrounds in your marketing, you are relating to a broader audience and helping break stereotypes. Creating inclusive marketing speaks volumes about your brand.
