Attorney Deana Sisk earns civil mediation certification

August 23, 2022 CONRIC PR

Attorney Deana Sisk of Arend & Sisk P.A., is proud to announce her recent certification as a civil mediator. Mediation services can often help simplify court cases and expedite resolutions for clients.

Sisk is Board Certified in Civil Trial Law and has been a trial attorney since graduating with honors from the University of Florida College of Law in 1997. She is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court Middle District as well as the State of Florida and is an Associate Member in the American Board of Trial Advocates.

“With over two decades of litigation experience, I’ve found that what the parties truly want is resolution. Mediation is a great opportunity to hear firsthand the other side’s perspective of the case and to identify the actual areas of disagreement. I believe that my level of expertise as a board-certified civil trial attorney provides a keen insight into issues involved in litigation and ways to assist the parties in reaching an agreement that benefits everyone involved” explained Sisk.

Mediation is a collaborative process in which both parties are guided by a neutral professional, such as Sisk, where issues are clearly defined and presented and both parties can work to come to a mutual agreement. This approach can be successful in various areas of law, including divorce, personal injury, and many others. It allows both parties to be active participants in the final agreement rather than hash it out in court where they must abide by a judge’s ruling, which can possibly leave both sides unsatisfied with the outcome.

“Mediation services help to avoid lengthy court cases and trials that can drag on for months or years due to court schedules, conflicting perspectives, availability, financial issues, and many other factors,” said Sisk. “Clients who can work out an agreement with the help of a mediator save themselves a lot of time, money, and stress, including the emotional toll that litigation creates on the non-legal professionals involved in the case.”

The Florida Supreme Court has mandatory requirements which must be met for certification as a mediator. In addition to completing a Florida Supreme Court certified mediation training program, applicants must possess sufficient education and experience, complete required mentorship obligations, and demonstrate good moral character. They must also complete continuing education courses to maintain certification once it is earned.
