Law and Order Ball raises $78k for Rotary and law enforcement youth programs

October 24, 2014 CONRIC PR

Rotary Club of Fort Myers South is pleased to announce that the inaugural Law and Order Ball, held October 10 at Harborside Event Center, netted $78,000 in proceeds to benefit the club’s public service initiatives and Lee County law enforcement youth programs. The five finalists for the Officer of the Year award were also recognized at the glittering affair, with Officers Yvetta Dominique and Bryan Fuller of the Fort Myers Police Department named as co-recipients of the honor. The event drew more than 400 local dignitaries, law enforcement representatives, business owners and residents

Rotary Club of Fort Myers South Foundation established the Law and Order Ball to recognize and celebrate public safety’s finest officers who proudly represent our local law enforcement agencies. It is the foundation’s belief that selecting an “Officer of the Year” from the agency submissions serves to promote public trust and support for the officers and the law enforcement agencies involved.

Five finalists were recognized out of 22 nominations submitted from seven different area law enforcement agencies: Lee County Port Authority, Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Fort Myers Police Department, Cape Coral Police Department, Sanibel Police Department, Florida Gulf Coast University Police Department, and Florida Southwestern State College Police Department. The committee selection process was “blind” (all identifiers were blacked out on the nomination forms reviewed by the six-member panel of judges).

Officers Dominque and Fuller received custom rings from Mark Loren Designs, a recognition plaque and a brand new Glock pistol. These officers have done an outstanding job of developing programs targeting local at-risk youth. The officers meet regularly with a group of young people to share positive messages and inspiration, and to build trusting relationships. They also organized a summer camp program that serves hundreds of students each year.
