Byron Donalds, a conservative Republican and newcomer to politics with his grassroots campaign for the District 19 congressional seat, received the prestigious endorsement of the Naples Daily News as the candidate who “rises above the status quo” and is the best choice to lead the district’s citizens in the nation’s Capitol.
“We believe he (Donalds) has the potential to become a rising star in Washington, with a difference,” the Naples Daily News editorial team wrote in its endorsement of Donalds, which was published Sunday. “He can deliver on the mission of being an effective citizen legislator rather than a career politician. Voters have a chance for a fresh slate with a seat that is open for the first time in eight years. We recommend that they make the most of that opportunity by choosing a political newcomer who can be a leader in Washington as well as locally.”
The paper commended Donalds for his financial astuteness and plans for corralling federal spending and developing strong policies on job creation, health care and immigration. It also noted that Donalds is the voters’ favorite candidate over his six Republican opponents, including three political veterans: Gary Aubuchon, Chauncey Goss and Paige Kreegal. The other three opponents are Paige Kreegle, Trey Radel and John Davidow. The winner of the August 14th primary will compete against Democrat Jim Roach on Nov. 6.
“I am thrilled and grateful to receive the endorsement of the Naples Daily News, which has such an important voice in our community,” said Donalds, who was further praised by the paper for being “so firmly grounded and self-confident that we doubt his head would be turned by the perks of power.”
“Like the citizens of the district, the paper has recognized that I am a true conservative, and that I am not about politics as usual,” Donalds added. “My values rest upon the belief that individual liberty and limited government are the basis of America’s greatness, and returning our country to that foundation is my highest goal.”
Donalds has been a clear choice of citizens, winning six of seven voter straw polls against his opponents at forums from Marco Island to Cape Coral. He also has received the endorsements of the Conservative Coalition of Americans for Political Equality (CAPE) Political Action Committee (PAC), former presidential candidate Herman Cain, the grassroots national group GOOOH (Get Out Of Our House), and staunch defender of the Constitution and former Arizona Sheriff Richard Mack. He has an army of more than 250 active volunteers in Naples, and support from conservative Republican voters around the country.
