Our Mother’s Home is in Jeopardy

September 16, 2013 CONRIC PR

Time is running out to help our young teen moms and their babies!

Our Mother’s Home is in jeopardy.

Partnering for Results Program, one of the largest grants provided to Our Mother’s Home, is in jeopardy of being cut and may result in the end of the program.

Our Mother’s Home is already underfunded as the babies of the teen moms in foster care do NOT receive funding from the state because the babies are not in foster care. Thus, Our Mother’s Home raises over 50% of their funding from programs like this and fundraising they do throughout the year.

You can help save the program by calling all of the Lee County Commissioners’ offices, emailing by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, September 18, 2013, or attending the meeting.

The meeting is Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. at the County Commission Chambers Old Lee County Courthouse, located at 2120 Main Street in Fort Myers, Florida.

Lee County Commisioners:

Tammy Hall    District 4: 533-2226 dist4@leegov.com
Frank Mann    District 5: 533-2225 dist5@leegov.com

Help our Lee County Commissioners understand that spending money now will save the community much more in welfare costs in the future by contacting them and describing the importance of a program like Our Mother’s Home.

About Our Mother’s Home of Southwest Florida, Inc.

Our Mother’s Home of Southwest Florida is a non-profit organization that aims to break the cycle of foster care and generational poverty by providing teen mothers, ages 12-18, who are in the foster care system or victims of human trafficking and other traumas, with a safe and nurturing home where they can learn to love and care for themselves and their children, while becoming productive members of society. As a privatized 501(c)3 organization, Our Mother’s Home raises 50 – 60% of its own funding to provide teen mothers with a supportive environment to stay with their children, learn life skills, and finish their education through its Mentored Living Program. There are no federal, state or city funding provided for the infants of the teen mothers.  They depend heavily on dedicated volunteers, and contributions of funds, commodities and services. With over 200 mothers and children being helped over its 13 years of operation, Our Mother’s Home continues to be a model for success in decreasing the rate of children in foster care.
