The Tommy Bohanon Foundation, a local non-profit, is fulfilling its aspirations to change the lives of at-risk youth in the Southwest Florida community, and surpassed its fundraising goal by raising approximately $131,000 at the annual Playmaker’s Tailgate Party in mid-June.

“We can’t thank everyone enough for coming out and for their generosity. We were hoping to raise $100,000, and by exceeding that we can have an even greater impact on the children in need in our community,” said former NFL player Tommy Bohanon, founder of the Tommy Bohanon Foundation. “We’re grateful to be supported by so many prominent businesses in the community. It’s truly an honor to be surrounded by people that are just as passionate about giving back as our foundation is.”

At the June 11 Playmaker’s Tailgate Party, held at the Collaboratory in Downtown Fort Myers, the Tommy Bohanon Foundation hosted a silent and live auction that raised approximately $131,000, which will go directly to programming, scholarships, and grants for local children. Community leaders such as the Mayor of Fort Myers, Kevin Anderson, attended the event.

At the event, $10,000 scholarships were awarded to three high school seniors, Jackson Shinneman, Patti Patricca, and Natalie Stafford, to help them achieve success in continued education. Shinneman will be attending Florida Atlantic University and majoring in International Business; Patricca will be attending Florida Southern College and majoring in Biology & Molecular Science and Stafford will be attending Florida Gulf Coast University nursing school.

Sponsors, called “playmakers,” were Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats, Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Lee Drywall, Titan Contracting LLC, Extreme Florida Roofing, Arthur Printing, Pott’s Sports Cafe, and CONRIC pr + marketing. Clint Green, owner of Titan Contracting, has been recognized as the Tommy Bohanon Foundation’s Most Valuable Playmaker (MVP) for being its greatest sponsor, contributing to the foundation since 2020. The sisters of Beta Epsilon Master received the Team Player of the Year award for their dedication to volunteering for the foundation.

Comedian RC Smith was the host, giving a short comedy show before carrying out the activities for the night. The event was catered by Personal Touch Catering, Wonderland Cookie Dough & Ice Cream, and Nothing Bundt Cakes, feeding the 175 attendees dinner and dessert, including several local business leaders from various industries who donated to the cause.
