Blessings in a Backpack bringing champion athletes to elementary schools

May 3, 2017 CONRIC PR

Fort Myers elementary school students will get a chance to see some of their sports heroes in person on May 5 as Blessings in a Backpack Southwest Florida brings these champions to Tice Elementary and James Stephens International Academy in Fort Myers.

As part of the Champions 4 Children Charity weekend at Sanibel Harbor and Resort, the athletes will visit the schools to meet with the children and distribute their food bags for the weekend. The athletes will also hold a Q&A session with the fifth graders at the schools.

Blessings in a Backpack Executive Director Cecilia St. Arnold said, “We are thrilled these champion athletes will be able to get a first-hand look at the impact of their efforts with Champions 4 Children and that the students will get a chance to meet some of their heroes.”

Champions 4 Children was founded in 2013 by a group of families in Southwest Florida who wanted to bring their love of sports and charity together to make the biggest impact possible for children in their community. This year’s charity weekend is a one-of-a-kind event featuring the opportunity to interact with big-time athletes from a variety of sports including the NFL, NBA, MLB, PGA as well as Olympic and collegiate players. All proceeds from the charity weekend will go directly to children. The largest beneficiary of the Champions 4 Children 2017 weekend will be Blessings in a Backpack of Southwest Florida, which feeds more than 3,200 children at schools and programs across Lee and Collier.

Blessings in a Backpack helps prevent hunger

Blessings in a Backpack steps up where federal aid stops by feeding children on the weekend. Every Friday afternoon, children receive backpacks filled with kid-friendly, ready-to-eat items. Students return every Monday morning with an empty backpack, a full stomach and an eager mind. In partnership with the Lee and Collier County schools, we have helped dramatically improve test scores, reading skills, behavior and general health.

Kids are our future; you can help secure theirs. A $100 donation will feed a child for one full school year! Donations of all sizes are welcome through our donations portal at www.blessingsinswfl.org or via mail at P.O. Box 61402 Fort Myers, FL 33906. All contributions are tax-deductible.
